UPSC Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam

Combined Defence Services Exam is conducted by the UPSC two times in a year for admissions to Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala, Air Force Academy (AFA) Hyderabad and Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai.

The competitive examination comprises of written examination and Interview for intelligence & personality test. The maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews are 300, 300, 300 and 200 each for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers' Training Academy respectively. The papers in all the subjects consist of objective type questions only.

The CDS Examination is held at 41 centres across the country. There is a ceiling on the number of candidates allotted to each of the centres except Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur.

Every year, CDS is conducted two times in a year by the UPSC. For every CDS exam, more than 2 lakh candidates apply.

The UPSC CDS cutoff is different for IMA, INA, AFA, OTA (Men) and OTA (Women).

You must be physically and mentally fit according to the prescribed physical standards. A number of qualified candidates are rejected subsequently on medical grounds. A candidate recommended by the Services Selection Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers.
